Thorsten is German and European Patent attorney and focuses on technical IP rights in the field of engineering. Thorsten worked for several years with Hoffmann Eitle in their Munich and London offices.
Besides extensive prosecution work, he has been involved in multiple patent litigation, opposition and appeal cases before the GPTO, the EPO, and the Federal Patent Court. He has in-depth expertise in drafting infringement and validity opinions for patents and utility models.
Thorsten has an outstanding academic background. He graduated under the top percent of his class from the Technical University Hamburg-Harburg with a degree in General Engineering Science (focus: Mechatronics) and from ETH Zurich with a degree in Mechanical Engineering (focus: Energy Technology). At ETH Zurich, he developed a new plasma-based concept for generating extreme ultraviolet radiation for manufacturing the next generation of semi-conductor devices (concept disclosed in WO2013/174525). His academic excellence has been recognized with over five different prizes and scholarships. Thorsten wrote the 3rd best B-paper of the European Qualifying Examination in his year of examination.
Thorsten has technical working experience in turbomachinery development (Andritz Hydro, Alstom), aerospace (Lufthansa Technik, Airbus), and shipbuilding (Thyssen Krupp Marine Systems). Besides, he gained management consultant experience at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.
